Service #8

My friend Sally Plautz had a masectomy on Thursday. She wrote on her blog how frightened she was...the surgery was moved up suddenly and she didn't have much time to prepare mentally. She had never had surgery before, she's been suffering horribly with her chemotherapy, she' lost her hair, and now...well part of her womanhood.

I went skiing all by myself on Thursday up at Dodge Ridge. I've never skiied by myself, but there was almost no-one there, so it was a very solitary experience. Each time I rode the chair lift up to the top (about 15 times) I was by myself. And each time I bowed my head and prayed for Sally. Sometimes I cried just thinking about her and wishing I could do something to ease her pain and fear. But on Thursday all I could do was pray.
