Service #2
Tonight I prepared a care package for Erik. It includes a "Nanna" (a fleece sleeve filled with dried corn) for him to heat in the microwave to keep warm, some peanut M & Ms and a card that's supposed to be encouraging for him. He had kind of a rough semester last fall, and I don't think I paid enough attention to what was going on with him. He is such a sweetheart - he never complains and he doesn't like to ask for help. He gets overwhelmed sometimes (like I do) and just shuts down. I hope that some small reminders from me each week will help him know that he's loved and that I have confidence in him. I know he can do it, but life sure can be hard some days. I guess it's ironic that I'm doing this for him today, because I felt very overwhelmed in many ways, and wondered if I would make it. A kind word or a small compliment would have really lifted me today. But I can also be lifted by doing this for someone else. That is the blessing of service! We are lifted as we lift others.
