1000 is a big number. The idea of doing anything 1000 times can seem overwhelming. But I think that once you've done something 1000 times, you're bound to be good at it, or at least better than when you started. I have some natural talents, but serving others is not one of them. I want it to come naturally to me like it seems to for so many of my friends. I know that will never happen unless I practice, hence the goal to complete 100 acts of service, and this blog. I think that writing down my experiences with service will motivate me and create a record of any spiritual growth that takes place along the way.

A few ground rules. Acts of service cannot include things that I am normally responsible for, like teaching seminary or visiting teaching. They can be big acts or small acts, but they have to be above and beyond what I would normally do. There is no time limit for completion. I am accountable to no-one but myself. When I'm finished I will celebrate, but I don't know how yet. I think it will come to me, and I imagine it will involve the people that I love the most. But I'm not in a hurry, because I'm sure that the joy will be in the journey.
